Devon Goodell5.0Posted on :03/18/2025We enjoyed a traditional kaiseki lunch at Kyoyamato during our honeymoon trip to Japan and we can confidently say it was one of the highlights of our trip. We will recommend this dining experience to everyone as a "must" for Kyoto. Kyoyamato is absolutely breathtaking with its traditional gardens and the historic building that you dine in. The warm tatami floors and panoramic views of the garden while you dine are spectacular. Not only is it a beautiful, peaceful environment to enjoy lunch (especially after traversing the busy streets of Kyoto), but the food itself is exquisite. Every single bite was better than the last, and one of the pieces of fish that we had during our meal is the single best piece of fish we have ever tasted. It melted in your mouth and was incredibly decadent for a delicate piece of fish. The service was impeccable, and despite a language barrier, our hostess was incredibly warm and accommodating. She even sensed that I was a little chilly and brought me warm hoji-cha tea to help me feel more comfortable. We have eaten at several Michelin-ranked restaurants and Kyoyamato will forever be one of our favorites and we feel deserves more than one star. Kyoyamato is more than a restaurant--it is a full sensory experience with the highest bar set for hospitality. Thank you for an unforgettable meal and memory from our special trip to Japan.
