12 Family Friendly Sushi Options in Tokyo
Official MICHELIN GUIDE Partner GMO OMAKASE rounds up 12 fine dining recommendations for sushi in Tokyo with children and infants.
Children and Infant Accessible Sushi Fine Dining
The number of fine dining sushi restaurants in Tokyo that are open to children and babies is suprisingly large. Some restaurants offer private rooms and dedicated lunch services to accommodate families with infants and elementary school age children, while some simply ask that a notice be made at the time of reservation and offer space for parking strollers. In general, children over 12 years old can be seated with adults and served standard courses.
Tip: When making a reservation, consider booking not just a table but also a specific course or dish to ensure a seamless dining experience. If you are bringing small children, please mention it in the Special Requests section at the time of booking.

4. Sushi Mikata (鮨 三か田) / Mita

This standing sushi bar (tachigui sushi) was inspired by the proprietor's memories of a similar restaurant he visited as a boy. Sushi Mikata, in Mita, took home a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2025 and still offers walk-ins for lunch. At dinner, reservations are offered in one-hour slots. The restaurant is clean and stylish, offering touch-device ordering and a view of the staff at work slicing and forming ingredients for nigiri. The standing sushi counter is designed for adults, but children of all ages are welcome in the store. Sushi Mikata is run by a married couple, and the prioprietor's wife's tamagoyaki is a hit with children and adult guests alike.

M.G.5.0Posted on :03/04/2024
It was a fantastic experience having sushi at the counter for the first time. The rice texture was excellent, and I was so satisfied that I even wished I could have had a few more pieces if I weren't already full.
10. Shinjuku Gyoen Sushi Nishi (新宿御苑すし 西) / Shinjuku
Not too far from Sushi Bando, Shinjuku Gyoen Sushi Nishi also allows small children to order a la carte while older kids enjoy course menus along with their adult family members. Tatsuhiro Nishi of Takumi Tatsuhiro is also the owner operator of this venue, which focuses on lunch courses comprised mainly of nigiri and complimented by warm sake and natural wines. The unique caliber of this restaurant makes it distinct from other brand concepts in the group and promises a singular sushi dining experience. 11. Sushi Karaku (鮨 からく) / Ginza
Ginza's Sushi Karaku offers its private dining room to families with children. After being featured on Anthony Bourdain's hit television series, the shop received world-wide recognition. Its most interesting feature is the chef's expert knowledge on sushi and wine pairings. Chef Togawa uses his sommelier license to provide a singular omakase menu and takes great care to make sure that guests visiting from over seas experience Edomae sushi authentically. Jonathan Slone5.0Posted on :12/20/2023I have been here five times over many years since it opened. The food is still excellent, although service from the chef himself is somewhat less personal than it has been in the past. The amount of dishes you get is vast- I left the restaurant very full. The service is also excellent but the pacing with some many dishes moves very quickly at the end. That said, for this style sushi, this is still my go to place when in Tokyo. Really very good.
