12 Family Friendly Sushi Options in Tokyo

Feb 04, 2025

Official MICHELIN GUIDE Partner GMO OMAKASE rounds up 12 fine dining recommendations for sushi in Tokyo with children and infants.

Children and Infant Accessible Sushi Fine Dining

The number of fine dining sushi restaurants in Tokyo that are open to children and babies is suprisingly large. Some restaurants offer private rooms and dedicated lunch services to accommodate families with infants and elementary school age children, while some simply ask that a notice be made at the time of reservation and offer space for parking strollers. In general, children over 12 years old can be seated with adults and served standard courses.

12 Sushi Restaunts to Enjoy with Children

1. Udatsu Sushi (宇田津 鮨) / Nakameguro

New selection
Michelin Guide, 2025

Adults can enjoy Chef Hasashi Udatsu's signature blend of red and white vinegared sushi rice while children enjoy the warm crunch of his creative tempura. Visually stunning and refreshingly delicious herb rolls punctuate the course. In general, Udatsu Sushi serves classical nigiri in the Edomae style, but his forays into creative dishes are exciting and memorable.

4. Sushi Mikata (鮨 三か田) / Mita

Bib Gourmand
Michelin Guide, 2025

This standing sushi bar (tachigui sushi) was inspired by the proprietor's memories of a similar restaurant he visited as a boy. Sushi Mikata, in Mita, took home a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2025 and still offers walk-ins for lunch. At dinner, reservations are offered in one-hour slots. The restaurant is clean and stylish, offering touch-device ordering and a view of the staff at work slicing and forming ingredients for nigiri. The standing sushi counter is designed for adults, but children of all ages are welcome in the store. Sushi Mikata is run by a married couple, and the prioprietor's wife's tamagoyaki is a hit with children and adult guests alike.
