About Takumi Sushi Owana

Introducing "Takumi Sushi Owana," a sophisticated sushi restaurant located on the fourth floor of a stylish building that emerges after a three-minute walk along the railway from the west gate of Ebisu Station in Tokyo.

The owner, Kenji Oana, is a highly skilled sushi chef who accumulated over ten years of experience at the renowned "Sushi Shou" in Yotsuya, known for producing numerous esteemed sushi artisans. Since opening "Takumi Sushi Owana" in August 2017, Oana has remained dedicated to his belief of cherishing his humble beginnings, continuously striving for improvement, and never settling for merely completing daily tasks, but always aiming for greater heights. He upholds the teachings of his mentor, Nakazawa, who emphasized the importance of persevering through hardships.

Oana's commitment to excellence is reflected in his meticulous ingredient selection. Instead of relying solely on suppliers, he personally sources premium ingredients that he has approved with his own discerning eye. The vinegar used for different sushi types is carefully chosen between red vinegar and white vinegar, with the acidity adjusted according to the day's temperature. The rice is made using carefully selected "Ginbozu Ichizoku," a variety exclusively grown in Miyagi prefecture for sushi. While honoring traditional techniques, Oana also incorporates innovative elements, such as incorporating smoked dishes infused with the flavors of straw and cherry wood.

When it comes to sake pairings, the restaurant offers a selection of over ten varieties, including local brands from Shizuoka, Oana's hometown, as well as those curated by "Suzuden," a historic sake specialty store established in the third year of the Kaei era and with whom Oana has had a longstanding relationship since his apprenticeship days.

The interior of the restaurant creates a fresh and clean atmosphere with a cypress ceiling and bright lighting. The counter, also made of cypress, accommodates eight seats, and there is a private room for up to six guests. These private rooms were specifically prepared based on Oana's own experience of the scarcity of upscale dining options suitable for families with children. As a result, the restaurant exudes a naturally warm and inviting ambiance, perfect for not only dates, business entertaining, and formal dining but also for families with young children.

We invite you to savor the sushi that embodies the weight of tradition in this gentle and inviting atmosphere at "Takumi Sushi Owana."

Incredible. Chef/owner charming, funny, welcoming, brilliantly talented. Sake offerings fantastic. Of course this is very expensive, but truly worth it. A once in a lifetime sushi experience that I can’t wait to do again asap!!!

Excellent omakase meal! Every course was unique & flavorful. I tried several items & preparations for the first time despite many omakase meals in my life. The chef and staff were attentive but casual & the atmosphere was fun. Definitely a great option to experience omakase in Tokyo.
