About Shoku to Sake Nakamuta

Shoku to Sake Nakamuta is a hidden gem, tucked away in a quiet alley in Hirao. Behind the noren curtain, you will be warmly welcomed by the smiling face of owner Taijin Nakamuta, creating the perfect retreat for adults. In a serene space filled with the warmth of wood, guests can relax and savor the harmony of fine food and sake.

The restaurant focuses on traditional Japanese cuisine, featuring ingredients sourced primarily from Fukuoka, Kyushu, the owner’s hometown. Celebrating the best of each season, the dishes are crafted with classic Japanese techniques, dashi broths, and fundamentals, delivering flavors that are both rich and nourishing. To complement these dishes, the restaurant proudly offers a selection of sake, with an emphasis on atsukan (warm sake).

A standout recommendation is the handmade spicy cod roe, lovingly prepared by the owner. Carefully selected ingredients, combined with several types of chili peppers, kombu (kelp), and fragrant yuzu, create a dish that balances a delicate spiciness with refined umami flavor. It is an absolute must-try.

To close the meal, guests are treated to freshly cooked rice served straight from an earthenware pot. Each grain is perfectly cooked, releasing natural sweetness with every bite. Paired with pickles and miso soup, it brings a warm and satisfying conclusion to the course.

At Shoku to Sake Nakamuta, they take pride in offering a welcoming and homey atmosphere where diners can fully enjoy the pleasures of delicious food and sake. Whether you visit alone or with loved ones, they invite you to bask in the slow, enriching flow of time and create unforgettable memories.
