9 Halal-Friendly Restaurants in Osaka

Dec 17, 2025

The editorial team at OMAKASE, an official partner of Michelin, presents a curated selection of Halal-friendly restaurants in Osaka. All of the restaurants featured in this guide can be reserved directly through the OMAKASE platform.

Halal-Friendly Dining Continues to Grow in Osaka

In Osaka, the number of restaurants offering Halal-friendly options—including many featured in the Michelin Guide—has been steadily rising. With the increasing influx of international visitors, a wide range of establishments, from Japanese cuisine to French and Italian fine dining, are embracing Muslim-friendly practices. Some restaurants now prepare dedicated menus that exclude pork and alcohol entirely.

The extent of Halal compliance, however, varies from one restaurant to another. We recommend confirming details in advance—such as whether the restaurant holds Halal certification or maintains separate cooking utensils. If you require Halal accommodations, it is best to contact the restaurant directly at the time of booking or before your visit for complete peace of mind.

9 Halal-Friendly Restaurants in Osaka

1. Sushi Haku (鮨 白) / Sushi

Michelin Guide, 2023

Selected as a Michelin Recommended Restaurant in 2023, Sushi Haku offers an exceptional omakase (chef’s choice) experience showcasing meticulously sourced ingredients and the artisan craftsmanship of its chefs.

For Halal-friendly arrangements, please specify any ingredients you cannot consume in the special request field when booking. The brewed vinegar (produced through acetic fermentation) used in the sushi rice is considered Halal in Japan.

Fresh seafood, delivered directly from its place of origin, is expertly prepared to draw out each ingredient’s natural character. The sushi rice is made with red vinegar, known for its mellow acidity, rich aroma, and deep umami, enhancing the flavor of each topping and adding remarkable depth and complexity.

The serene, intimate space features only eight counter seats, ensuring attentive service and an immersive dining experience. English menus and English-speaking staff are available, making it a welcoming choice for international guests.

Michelin Star
Michelin Guide, 2025

Honored with one Michelin star for 14 consecutive years, Ajikitcho Bumbuan is a celebrated establishment that embodies the spirit and refined techniques of traditional kamigata (the classical culinary style of the Osaka–Kyoto region) cuisine. Unswayed by trends or modern flash, the restaurant presents authentic Japanese cuisine grounded in time-honored methods and culinary philosophy.

3. Hozan (庖山) / Kaiseki

New selection
Michelin Guide, 2025

Twice named a Michelin Selected Restaurant, Hozan is a distinguished establishment devoted to the art of fish. The chef–owner, a consummate master of seafood, presents the bounty of each season at its precise peak—both in quality and in moment.

Please note that Halal accommodations may not be possible for guests who cannot consume seafood. When submitting a request, list any ingredients you cannot eat other than seafood in the special request field.

At Hozan, the preparation method is carefully chosen for each fish—served fresh at its most vibrant, or expertly aged to draw out deep umami. Employing the five classical Japanese cooking techniques—cutting raw, simmering, grilling, steaming, and deep-frying—the chef highlights the innate character of every ingredient. Ornamentation is never excessive; instead, seasonal vegetables are used thoughtfully to bring natural color and balance to each dish.

The counter, set at nearly the same height as the chef’s cutting board, creates an immersive sense of immediacy and craftsmanship. Private rooms for 4–6 guests are also available, providing flexibility for various dining occasions.
