5 High-End Yakiniku and Teppanyaki Restaurants Worth Trying in Ginza

Nov 08, 2024

The rich taste of wagyu (Japanese beef) is a must-try when visiting Japan. In this article, the editorial team of OMAKASE, an official Michelin partner, introduces upscale yakiniku (Japanese BBQ) and teppanyaki (iron griddle cooking) restaurants in Ginza that we recommend.

1. Matoi Ginza (まとい銀座) / Yakiniku

Beef sandwiched in bread.

A five-minute walk from Ginza Station, Matoi Ginza isa yakiniku restaurant where you can spend time in a calm Japanese atmosphere, forgetting the bustle of the city.

You can enjoy branded beef such as Kobe beef, Matsusaka beef, and Yonezawa beef (premium beef from Hyogo, Mie, and Shiga Prefecture), sourced through unique channels. Along with carefully selected prime beef of the day, they also offer luxury ingredients like matsutake mushrooms (Japanese premium and expensive mushrooms), Sichuan pepper (an aromatic spice from Sichuan province of China), black abalone, and Echizen crab (premium crab from Fukui Prefecture).

The interior showcases the skills of Japanese craftsmen, with beautiful plastered and stone-processed walls and bonsai (miniature trees) over 200 years old. At the counter, with an elegant bonsai in front, you can enjoy your meal while watching the chef's delicate handiwork.

A custom-made wine cellar that can store 400 bottles houses a wide range of wines from Burgundy, France, Italy, America, and Japan. We hope you'll also enjoy pairing sake with your dishes.
