Top 10 Restaurants in Akasaka and Toranomon
Akasaka and Toranomon are global business hubs, famous for their prestigious dining scene. These neighborhoods boast numerous renowned restaurants that are popular with politicians, business leaders, and celebrities alike. The OMAKASE editorial team, an official partner of the Michelin Guide, introduces some of these iconic dining spots.
Overview of the Akasaka and Toranomon Area
Akasaka and Toranomon are prominent business districts.

The Akasaka and Toranomon area boasts a rich history, stretching back to the Edo period when it was situated near Edo Castle (now the Imperial Palace) and was home to the residences of influential feudal lords. In the Meiji period, its significance increased even more due to its proximity to Nagatacho, the political center, and Kasumigaseki, where many government offices are located. This led to the establishment of numerous foreign embassies in the area, including the U.S. Embassy. Today, Akasaka and Toranomon have become a global business hub, drawing many international companies to set up their offices here. The area also features numerous facilities such as Akasaka Sacas and Toranomon Hills, which cater to the dining and lifestyle needs of the business community.
Characteristics of Dining in Akasaka and Toranomon

Dining in Akasaka and Toranomon offers several unique features. The area is famous for its historic restaurants and long-standing eateries that have traditionally attracted political figures. Many of these are traditional ryotei (Japanese-style restaurants) that typically don’t accept first-time visitors, though some do allow general reservations. Additionally, the area boasts numerous casual izakaya (Japanese-style tapas bars) popular with office workers from the nearby business district. Recent developments, including large commercial complexes like Akasaka Sacas and Toranomon Hills, have drawn a broader range of customers. These complexes feature venues catering to younger crowds and branches of renowned Japanese restaurants, providing a wide variety of dining options. Whether you're looking for traditional Japanese cuisine or the latest modern dishes, this area has something to offer.

Their specialty, "Abalone Risotto," combines vinegared rice with abalone and its liver for an extraordinary flavor experience. Terrence Kiernan5.0Posted on :03/24/2025My third Omakase experience in Japan, and this was the best one yet. The food was great, the atmosphere was warm and friendly, and the portions/courses were very generous. The only downside was that my wife could not attend, but I will remedy that the next time I am in Tokyo. Highly recommended.

Anita5.0Posted on :11/23/2024Me and my husband's first omakase experience in Tokyo and it was fantastic! Chef Nakajima was very welcoming and open to chatting. The waitress was fluent in English and explained the fish well. I loved that all the fish (except the uni) came from Tokyo Bay and that many items were seasonal. Can't wait to go back!
5. Sorahana (空花) / Japanese

The Michelin-starred Japanese restaurant is owned by Chef Kanako Wakimoto, who trained at Nihonryori Kanda, a renowned establishment that has held three Michelin stars for 15 consecutive years. After honing her skills there, she ventured out on her own, bringing the same exceptional techniques to her restaurant. The menu features a carefully curated 11-course meal, with each dish reflecting the chef’s unwavering dedication. Among the highlights is the "Hassun," a beautifully presented traditional Japanese platter that showcases a delightful assortment of flavors in every bite.

LiJintong5.0Posted on :06/17/2024An exceptionally wonderful dining experience, with unparalleled menu combinations, and heartwarming communication. The restaurant is located on the first basement floor, yet it is incredibly cozy and comfortable. The chef is professional, meticulous, and has a great attitude. Each dish is an organic combination of different types of ingredients, with flavors that are both surprising and astonishing, so delicious they could bring tears to one's eyes, and the portions are very generous!! Highly recommended.

Raynor5.0Posted on :04/27/2024Superb meal! I particularly enjoyed the buckwheat soba and beef broth with tonburi ("mountain caviar"). We sat in a private room and the chef(s) were exceptionally attentive. They do speak English, we did not have any issues. Highly recommend, especially for foreigners who would like to try an innovative local meal.
Please note, we had a little trouble finding the restaurant because the building signage is not in English. When you find the address, Okamoto is in the basement. Additionally, for those who are familiar with Western high end dining, the omakase meal is more courses, so please make sure you have full room in your stomach before visiting. -
Isaac5.0Posted on :03/24/2024Wonderful experience with unexpected delicious flavors, exciting textures, and large serving portions. Great service and excellent communication, considering our non-existent knowledge of Japanese. Although we arrived 30 minutes before the reservation, chefs welcomed and accommodated us right away, without sacrificing ongoing service. Beyond satisfied!

A Hong Konger5.0Posted on :06/10/2024Enjoyable and tasty meal. The set meal was absolutely value for money. Or I should say the quality of the ingredients surpassed my expectation. No where you could find in Hong Kong at similar price having all shark fin, dried abalone and swallow nest as ingredients. Bravo!

Jerry5.0Posted on :01/14/2024Akanezaka Onuma when we were making the reservation had some harsh criticism from some foreigner customers, but good reviews from Japanese customers on sites. I can see why now - it's a unapologetically heartful Japanese meal. Every piece could not be less foreign to someone from outside the country who is unfamiliar with Japanese cuisine, but anyone familiar could see the head chef's attention to bringing out the flavors of north Japan, particularly Yamagata prefectures tastes. You could at any moment ask the chef about a particular dish and he'll answer you casually about each piece and where it came from. My group of 6 had a wonderful time.
-
Lin5.0Posted on :12/02/2023We really enjoyed our dinner at Akanezaka Onuma. Chef and workers did not speak much English but made the effort to let us know what is in each dish. Most of the other customers were Japanese which was a plus. We got very full at the end and could not finish our fish stone pot rice. We boxed it up and had it for breakfast the next day - it was one of the best tasting breakfast rice dish I've ever had!!!
9. Sumibikappo SHIROSAKA (炭火割烹 白坂) / Japanese

This acclaimed Japanese restaurant has held a Michelin one-star rating since 2019. Chef Hideki Ii, who has also served as a private chef for a UN ambassador in New York, brings his expertise to the establishment. The restaurant offers a chef’s tasting menu featuring about nine inventive dishes inspired by traditional Japanese cuisine. A standout dish is the "Chilled Tuna and Sea Urchin" appetizer, enhanced with a touch of caviar. The highlight of the meal is the charcoal-grilled items, where premium ingredients are cooked over binchotan charcoal. The seafood and meat, perfectly cooked and infused with the distinct aroma of the charcoal, are exceptionally delicious.
