    One of the best restaurants I’ve had the pleasure of visiting. The food is truly special—every dish I tried was delicious. The service and ambiance are impeccable; everything feels highly personalised. The sake pairing is a must-try, and the dessert is both beautifully presented and equally delicious.

A long-established brand with 150 years of history, Ginza Yondaime Takahashiya prides itself on the most meticulous preparation among restaurants across Japan. It offers traditional Japanese kappo cuisine, a multi-course meal prepared entirely by the chef. The Ginza branch was opened with the aim of “revolutionizing” traditional eel restaurants by focusing utmost attention on the eels and the artistic interior, designed by a first-class architect and reminiscent of a museum.

High-class rice, water, and kelp are sourced from all over Japan. Eels, known for their numerous small bones that can detract from the dining experience, undergo a painstaking two-hour preparation process at Takahashiya to ensure a bone-free dish of the highest quality with meticulous attention to detail. Slowly charred over powerful binchotan (high-grade charcoal), the eels are tender and succulent, complemented by a savory sauce, resulting in an exquisite dish.

    The unagi set was fabulous! From the starter to the dessert, I enjoyed my meal and my time there. The meal is very big but quite expensive. But considering that a lot of eel in different courses, I'm happy. I especially love the unagi jelly, the unagi in soup and the unagi on rice. The sashimi too. Thank you for explaining the food to me! Great service.
    Recommend everyone who would like to enjoy an unagi adventure.

    Superb overall. Food: definitely the best unagi i have had in my life and the different variations from the set were all amazing and creative and unique in their own ways. (Happy) Death by unagi pretty much. I believe the smaller sets or a la carte (if available) might be better and cheaper if you can't have that much unagi in one meal. Price: Quite expensive but you do understand why it is expensive since the value and quality of the eel and food itself (since we had the full set) were all top notch. Definitely worth it for at least once in a lifetime experience. Keep enough time for the full set if you will try the latter. We were in a slight rush for the airport so that affected our experience a little bit but that has nothing to do with the restaurant. Service: Great service.

    Small and intimate dining experience with perfectly cooked tempura. Nishizawa-san and his wife are a delightful couple who speak enough English to explore cultural differences in a fun way, e.g. most foreigners are wary of shirako, which is delicious. Highly recommended. They serve a variety of premium sake, which can be expensive, so best to ask about prices when ordering.

Located in Ginza, Fugu Club miyawaki offers fugu dishes similar to its Bettei counterpart. They use farmed fugu raised with superior Japanese techniques as high-quality ingredients, offering them at reasonable prices. The restaurant offers only an omakase (chef's choice menu, where the chef decides what to serve) course, but à la carte options like tessa (thinly sliced fugu sashimi), tecchiri (fugu hot pot), grilled fugu, and deep-fried fugu are available at more affordable prices than at Bettei.
