About Konno
[Modern Kyoto Cuisine: Valuing Tradition Beyond Luxury Ingredients]
Located about an eight‑minute walk from Kiyomizu‑Gojo Station on the Keihan Main Line, Konno is helmed by an owner‑chef who spent many years refining his craft at a renowned kappo restaurant in Gion. The interior, composed of soft grey tones harmonized with the warmth of natural wood, offers a stylish yet serene atmosphere imbued with Japanese elegance. The counter, considered the best seat in the house, offers a close view of the chef at work, while dishes are delivered at the “shortest distance” from the lively kitchen—where the grill and frying stations sit right beside the preparation area—ensuring that aroma, temperature, and freshness reach the table without delay.
The chef’s philosophy is to honor the traditions of Kyoto cuisine without relying solely on luxury ingredients, expressing them with a modern sensibility and meticulous technique. His takiawase—a simmered dish that draws out the full character of each ingredient—is a signature example of his skill and experience.
Enhancing the dining experience is contemporary artisan tableware that elevates the space, along with a curated selection of beverages chosen by the chef, who is also a certified sommelier. In addition to sake, guests can enjoy around ten varieties of wine by the glass, including Makicolle wines and Champagne. With the warm hospitality of the proprietress, we invite you to enjoy a special moment that engages all five senses.
