About Gion Shizuka
Nestled in the heart of Kyoto’s Gion district, Gion Shizuka is an intimate kappo-style restaurant housed in a renovated traditional Kyomachiya townhouse. Here, guests can savor authentic Kyo-kaiseki crafted by our Michelin-starred head chef, along with an exceptional selection of rare Japanese sake. In a serene setting where the elegance of Kyoto’s tradition meets refined hospitality, guests can relax and indulge in a truly fulfilling dining experience.
Our cuisine features an 11-course Kyo-kaiseki menu, showcasing seasonal ingredients such as Kyoto vegetables, premium wagyu beef, and select delicacies from across Japan. Each dish expresses the beauty of the seasons and the essence of Japanese aesthetics, prepared with our chef’s refined mastery and artistry.
To accompany the meal, guests can enjoy a premium sake pairing course, including nine varieties of exceptional Japanese sake, among them the renowned and elusive Juyondai. Each selection is carefully curated to reflect Japan’s 24 solar terms (niju-shisekki), and served at the ideal temperature. For those who prefer to limit or refrain from alcohol, a non-pairing course focusing solely on the cuisine is also available.
Whether for lunch or dinner, Gion Shizuka offers a refined dining experience that immerses guests in the depth of Japanese culture. We invite both domestic and international guests to indulge in an elegant world of Japanese sophistication, an experience that can only be found here in Kyoto.
