About Akanezaka Onuma

Located just a 3-minute walk from Akasaka Station, "Akanezaka Onuma" is a Japanese restaurant where you can enjoy a serene atmosphere that makes you forget about the hustle and bustle of the city, all while having excellent access.

Mr. Mitsuharu Onuma, who honed his skills at renowned traditional establishments such as Tokyo Kichō, Nihon Ryōri Matsushita, and Goryōri Tsuji, fulfilled his long-cherished dream of opening his own restaurant in February 2020. The restaurant offers traditional kaiseki cuisine that focuses on seasonal ingredients that change with the seasons. The seafood and vegetables are sourced from famous suppliers in Tsukiji, while the rice is made from locally produced Tsuya Hime rice from the owner's hometown in Yamagata Prefecture. Mr. Onuma, with his delicate techniques and unique creativity, creates exquisite dishes that bring out the best flavors of the ingredients, carefully prepared for each and every customer, reflecting the changing seasons.

You can enjoy authentic seasonal Japanese cuisine that incorporates specialties such as "nabe-takikomi gohan" (rice cooked in a pot) and refined "wanmono" (soup) dishes, each highlighting their own distinctive characteristics.

To provide visual enjoyment for customers, the restaurant owner personally selects the tableware from his antique collection to complement the dishes. The restaurant aims to provide a luxurious experience surrounded by the owner's dedication to both the cuisine and elegant tableware, allowing guests to have a memorable time.

The interior of the restaurant has a hidden and secluded atmosphere that makes you forget you are in the heart of the city, and it reflects Mr. Onuma's attention to detail throughout the design. There are 8 counter seats where guests can enjoy observing the cooking process and 4 private rooms for a relaxed and private dining experience. It can be used for various purposes, whether for solo dining or with friends and colleagues. Although it is a relatively new establishment, many regular customers have already visited multiple times, which attests to the satisfaction of the kaiseki cuisine. We sincerely hope that you will come and enjoy it too.

Akanezaka Onuma when we were making the reservation had some harsh criticism from some foreigner customers, but good reviews from Japanese customers on sites. I can see why now - it's a unapologetically heartful Japanese meal. Every piece could not be less foreign to someone from outside the country who is unfamiliar with Japanese cuisine, but anyone familiar could see the head chef's attention to bringing out the flavors of north Japan, particularly Yamagata prefectures tastes. You could at any moment ask the chef about a particular dish and he'll answer you casually about each piece and where it came from. My group of 6 had a wonderful time.

We really enjoyed our dinner at Akanezaka Onuma. Chef and workers did not speak much English but made the effort to let us know what is in each dish. Most of the other customers were Japanese which was a plus. We got very full at the end and could not finish our fish stone pot rice. We boxed it up and had it for breakfast the next day - it was one of the best tasting breakfast rice dish I've ever had!!!

The food was plentiful, the items were creative, the star is deserved, it was more than value for money compared to other places we have visited at the same level.
