About Okamoto
Located just a 1-minute walk from Kamiyacho Station on the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line, "Okamoto" proudly hangs its noren (entrance curtain) in the heart of the city. It is a Japanese restaurant that carefully selects seasonal ingredients and delivers them with the masterful skills of the head chef.
Hidetsugu Okamoto, who rose to the position of head chef at the Michelin two-star ryotei (traditional Japanese restaurant) Wakuden in Kyoto, ventured out on his own and opened "Ginza Okamoto" in 2012. Since 2013, the restaurant has continued to earn Michelin stars.
Once you take a seat at the counter, the splendid culinary preparation begins right before your eyes. The exquisite techniques of the master chef transform the carefully selected ingredients into exceptional dishes, fully showcasing their charm. One of the charms of "Okamoto" is the opportunity to experience artistic Japanese cuisine in an atmosphere filled with the passion of top-class chefs. While rooted in traditional Japanese cuisine, the dishes at "Okamoto" incorporate unique and creative touches that distinguish the restaurant.
The signature menu item is the karasumi (bottarga) soba. It features generously sprinkled coarsely grated karasumi, allowing you to enjoy the texture of the soba noodles and the fragrant flavor. The mackerel sushi, which is made from fatty mackerel caught during the autumn to the winter season and served throughout the year, is also highly regarded. Vegetables, an essential element of Japanese cuisine, primarily consist of richly flavored Kyoto vegetables. The restaurant also emphasizes the rice used and selects the most suitable varieties to enhance the flavors of the dishes, including rice from Niigata and Kyoto. As for sake, they offer a wide selection of crisp and dry varieties, with a focus on those from Niigata.
The interior of the restaurant incorporates both Japanese and Western elements, with a counter seating of nine, including premium seats, and a private room with a five-seat L-shaped counter. It is suitable for various occasions such as anniversaries, family meals, and business entertainment. We invite you to visit during different seasons and experience the changing seasons through the finest seasonal ingredients.

Posted on : 06/17/2024An exceptionally wonderful dining experience, with unparalleled menu combinations, and heartwarming communication. The restaurant is located on the first basement floor, yet it is incredibly cozy and comfortable. The chef is professional, meticulous, and has a great attitude. Each dish is an organic combination of different types of ingredients, with flavors that are both surprising and astonishing, so delicious they could bring tears to one's eyes, and the portions are very generous!! Highly recommended.Raynor
Posted on : 04/27/2024Superb meal! I particularly enjoyed the buckwheat soba and beef broth with tonburi ("mountain caviar"). We sat in a private room and the chef(s) were exceptionally attentive. They do speak English, we did not have any issues. Highly recommend, especially for foreigners who would like to try an innovative local meal.
Please note, we had a little trouble finding the restaurant because the building signage is not in English. When you find the address, Okamoto is in the basement. Additionally, for those who are familiar with Western high end dining, the omakase meal is more courses, so please make sure you have full room in your stomach before visiting.Isaac
Posted on : 03/24/2024Wonderful experience with unexpected delicious flavors, exciting textures, and large serving portions. Great service and excellent communication, considering our non-existent knowledge of Japanese. Although we arrived 30 minutes before the reservation, chefs welcomed and accommodated us right away, without sacrificing ongoing service. Beyond satisfied!Tsai
Posted on : 11/29/2023Everything was fresh tasting and in perfect portions! My wife and I were both so impressed by both the food and service. The evening even ended with the chef personally helping us to hail a taxi, beyond impressed.Kevin

Posted on : 10/13/2023What a memorable meal! Chef Okamoto and his sous chef couldn’t have been more kind or more welcoming, greeting us upon arrival and seeing us out. The dishes were exceptionally executed, and the presentation was stunning. I loved watching them prepare every dish. This meal made our first trip to Tokyo, and my husband’s birthday, one to remember. Arigatou gozaimasu!
