"Vena" is a vibrant Italian restaurant in Kyoto, brought to life by a duo of a chef and sommelier, both natives of the city.

The restaurant’s concept is centered around a selection of seasonal ingredients and aged Italian wines.

The name “Vena,” meaning ‘water vein,’ is thoughtfully chosen to reflect several layers of significance: both the chef and sommelier have names containing water-related kanji, and the restaurant’s location in Kyoto, a city famed for its waterways.

Embracing Japan’s four seasons, the restaurant incorporates seasonal ingredients into its dishes. The chef’s desire for guests to savor each ingredient is infused into every creation.

Dishes are seasoned robustly to complement the wine, with vegetables sourced from the central market, while some are delivered directly by contracted farmers from Kyoto.

The wine selection includes old vintages from the '60s, each with its own optimal time for enjoyment. To ensure guests can savor the wines at their best, approximately 1,000 bottles are kept in reserve, ready to be served at their peak of flavor.

The dedication to detail is evident in the restaurant’s design, which features a collection of Scandinavian vintage furniture curated by the sommelier, all set within a refined, hotel-like ambiance.
